Bulimia Nervosa commonly known as Bulimia is an eating disorder affecting men as well as women. It is a combination of binge eating followed by vomiting. When a person suffers from bulimia he or she eats large amount of food within a short period of time and vomit the same by using purgatives to avoid weight gain. It is a psychological problem due to issues with their weight, emotional baggage, depression, stress or self-esteem problems. It becomes very hard to find out if a person is suffering from bulimia. People who suffer from bulimia look normal as well as have normal weight, some may happen to be overweight. Many of the eating disorder problems are done behind closed door adding to its secrecy. Family and friends support is very important for patients who suffer from this problem. Initially patients may deny then resists the fact about such problem and end up being angry with others and themselves. The main cause can be due to their shape and size which is very often determined by the things they see around and want to imitate the same.

Some other problems you face due this act of binging and purging aretooth erosion due to acidic reflux, swelling and soreness of the salivary glands due to repeated vomiting, abdominal problems like ulcers, ruptures, build up of fluid in intestines, problems with bowel movement, dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Some common symptoms to determine a bulimia patient is eating without control, purging, strict dieting and fasting, strenuous exercise routine, depression, increasing use of bathroom after meals, heartburn, moody behavior, weakness and exhaustion.

A person suffering from bulimia can get better by using different therapies. There are no specific home remedies but a constant need to change ones present lifestyle can make a difference. You can join group therapy, family therapy or individual therapy which makes a lot of difference in your life. Have supportive friends around you. Talk to your friends about the inner turmoil you go through everyday. Talk about matters which concern you and be comfortable in your skin. Remove the guilt pangs from your mind and look forward for a better and healthy living. You can also try hypnosis as it is known to have worked on people.

It’s normal for parents to be concerned about their children’s health and well-being. But Tammy Crane, mother of 21-year-old Garrett, took a more active route-something she could do for her son that would have both of them worrying less. She had Garrett get rid of his contacts by having LASIK.

“Garrett’s broken his glasses several times and, of course, he always wants the latest designer glasses. He would go through contacts like water,” says Tammy.

Ophthalmologists are seeing growing numbers of parents encouraging their young adult children to have LASIK. One reason is the monetary savings. Contacts cost up to $600 annually, and glasses can run upwards of $1,200 a pair. Considering that male eyes stop “growing” at age 21 and female eyes at age 18, young adults having LASIK in their early 20s will recoup their costs well before they hit their 30s. Additionally, the procedure can last for up to 30 years, making the cost savings of LASIK as compared to contacts and glasses significant-well into the thousands.

Tammy was so pleased with the results of her own LASIK procedure that she knew she wanted the same for her son. “I had LASIK four years ago and knew what a blessing it was,” she says. “I knew if Garrett had it now, he could get even more years of enjoyment out of it. I also knew he didn’t take proper care of his contacts and with the recent breakout of fungal infections, I was worried.”

Among the other LASIK benefits parents find appealing is that they no longer worry about the risks associated with their children’s poor contact lens hygiene.

“Garrett told me of different times when he had stored his contacts in glasses of water. And the outside of his case was disgusting. He never changed the solution,” Tammy says. “In fact, he had a few minor infections over the years due to his poor contacts care.”

For Tammy and Garrett, they insisted on the most advanced technology available-LASIK with the IntraLase Method. Dr. Daniel Durrie, who did Garrett’s procedure, commented, “Patients who have this advanced LASIK method generally achieve vision better than 20/20. Additionally, LASIK with the IntraLase Method is blade-free, meaning patients avoid the most serious and sight-threatening complications associated with the traditional metal blade.” The safety advantage of the IntraLase Method has given parents such as Tammy the confidence to allow their children to have LASIK.

Today, Garrett enjoys a contacts-free lifestyle that includes his favorite hobbies, such as canoeing and jet skiing. “It’s awesome,” he says. “I opened my eyes underwater and could see. It was pretty cool.”

Parents worried about infections and costs urge kids to have LASIK with the IntraLase method.

We try to laugh it off whenever we come across a filler in the magazines or newspapers about a couple getting divorced because one of the spouses was snoring. Actually the problem of snoring is more serious. It is not a mere nuisance. Snoring can lead to serious social and health consequences.

Increased risk of diabetes, stroke, heart disease and high blood pressures are linked with snoring.

The sleeping partner and the snorer both lose their sleep due to snoring. In order to stop the snoring, the snorer might wake up often and this also leads to disturbances in the sleeping pattern of the spouse. During the day, the couples face lack of productivity, irritability and sleepiness due to the disturbed sleep caused by snoring.

Snoring can cause one of the spouses to sleep in another room, leading the relationship to go sour. Social and physical intimacies of a couple are also affected by the snoring. The couple becomes unhappy and the snoring partner feels isolated.

There are different variations of snoring. Mild snoring can be cured by waking up and turning to the opposite side. If a person continues to snore, despite the changes in sleeping positions, then it is labeled as severe snoring.

Severe snoring can also cause severe sleep deprivation for the couple which can lead to the immune system not responding quickly to the healing process, very poor emotional and mental health, mood changes, not thinking very clearly and slow reaction.

Heredity, obesity, approaching old age, being a male, smoking, lacking health fitness, deformities in the nose, tonsils or enlarged adenoids, lengthy soft-palate, alcoholism, allergies, cold, sinus infection and sleeping on the back with overlay of pillows which are soft are some of the causes for snoring.

To stop snoring, try to reduce weight, sleep on your side, sleep without a pillow, try to elevate the head at least four inches from the bed, avoid smoking and secondary smoke, do not eat heavy food or alcohol before bed and say no to high-fat dairy products before bed time. Try decongestants to clear nasal passages.

Nasal strips and sprays which claim to cure snoring are available in the market. Most of them are unproven and can not withstand any serious medical research. Occasionally some of them might cure mild snoring.

If all the above do not give any relief consult a good ENT practitioner, who might suggest continuous positive airway pressure which is nothing but sleeping with an air mask to get continuous air pressure in the throat and thereby reduce the snoring if not stop it completely.

Rather than wearing glasses, many individuals opt for the use of contact lenses. Common problems associated with their use include irritation to the eyelid, the cornea and may even include tearing the film that covers the eye’s outer surface. The best way to lessen the likelihood of any of these conditions appearing is to avoid excessive wear of contact lenses, including overnight wear.

Many people choose to wear disposable contact lenses because they require no cleaning and do not carry the potential for bacteria presence, which is a common problem with reusable contact lenses. In an effort to prevent this occurrence, wearers must regularly clean and disinfect their contact lenses in order to maintain both a sanitary surface and clear vision.

Along with most prescriptions, an optometrist will provide advice on cleaning, wear time and maintenance. The reason is because some cleansers are to be used exclusively with certain types of contact lenses, which makes it very important that the wearer read the labeling on any solution prior to applying it to his/her contact lenses. One thing that all solutions have in common is that their container should remain closed while not being used.A number of individuals may be sensitive to certain ingredients, which are sometimes included in cleansers used on contact lenses. If an individual suspects that they must have any such sensitivity, they should inform their doctor in order to avoid possible complications.

Just as medication is prescribed individually, contact lenses are no different. Therefore, individuals should not share their lenses or use the lense of another wearer. As one may expect, this can cause serious damage and possible infection. In severe cases, the contact lenses may have to be professionally removed if they are inserted into the eye of anyone other than the intended wearer. Severe swelling, infection and eye damage are all possibilities of this action.

As a final thought to caring for contact lenses, wearers should wash their hands thoroughly prior to touching the lense or their eyes. The soap should be free of moisturizers or allergens, both of which may cause complications with contact lenses and sensitivity to the eye.

The information in this article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be considered as, or used in place of, medical advice or professional recommendations for the intended use of contact lenses. If necessary, individuals should consult a optometrist or qualified physician for a proper fitting for contact lenses and additional information on their use and benefits.

Many sufferers would applaud knowing the best cure for snoring, but just what exactly works and what does not? Experts have varying opinions, but there is one thing that is for certain and that is that you cannot go wrong with a natural cure for snoring.

Among the newest anti-snoring aids that offer a natural snoring remedy is the Sleep Genie, which is often recommended by doctors. During sleep, this new product has been proven to support the jaw while keeping the mouth closed.

Open mouth sleeping is one of the leading causes for snoring, which is why this revolutionary new snoring device often works during the very first use. Could this be among the best cures for snoring? Perhaps the individuals who tried this product could chime in, but they are busy enjoying a restful night’s sleep at the moment.

Other cures for snoring are found when people simply decide to sleep on their side instead of their back. Individuals who regularly sleep on their back seem to be more prone to snoring when the fatty tissue in their mouth rests in the back of their throat, which restricts air passage. If it seems impossible to sleep on their side, individuals can rest a large body pillow up against their back to prevent them from turning over through the night.

Some anti-snoring devices, such as the Sleep Genie, allow you to sleep any way that you choose. If you choose to sleep on your back, but have nasal congestion caused by allergies, there are natural cures that may provide relief.

Before going to bed, run hot water in the sink and inhale the steam. The warmth will open up the nasal passages and allow for easier breathing through the nose. In addition, ridding your home of allergens, such as dust, pet hair and cigarette smoke will also help allergy sufferers to get a better snore-free night’s sleep.

The use of air filtration systems help to remove dust and other allergens from their air and should be placed in every room throughout the house, including the bedroom.

If the sufferer has been diagnosed as being overweight or obese, this may also be a cause for snoring. A medically supervised diet and exercise program may be the answer to losing weight and the nighttime nuisance of snoring. Not only is weight loss one of the best cures for snoring, but also one of the best for overall health.

Snoring is big business. Check out the web and you will find hundreds of sites selling products designed to help you stop snoring. Unless you’ve got a real problem with sleep apnea, however, most loud sleepers can have their volume turned down or off through natural snoring treatments that don’t cost anything.

Most natural snoring treatments aren’t really treatments at all. They are lifestyle changes. There are many things that can be done to put a halt to the nighttime symphony nobody wants to hear. One of the most common causes behind snoring is being overweight.

Even if you never had a problem with snoring in your life, if you gain enough weight it can become a problem. Obviously, the answer to this kind of snoring is simply to lose weight. And it doesn’t even have to be a lot of weight, usually, especially if you have only just become a regular snorer. Very often a weight loss of as little as ten pounds can correct the problem.

For those whose snoring isn’t caused by weight gain, very often the culprit is an allergy. Again, this qualifies as one of the cheapest and easiest of the natural snoring treatments. The major problem will be determining what you are allergic to. If you’ve got a pet in the house, try keeping it outside if possible. If you think the problem is plants, try to eliminate them. But also be sure to wash your sheets and blankets regularly. And clean your heating and air conditioning vents of dust.

Perhaps the cheapest of all the natural snoring treatments is to change your sleep position. Most snoring is done when you sleep on your back. Chances are you’ll have to engage in a little help from a sleeping partner to do this one. When your snoring wakes your partner up, get him or her to nudge or roll you onto your side. More than likely that will at least temporarily—until you roll over onto your back again—provide a solution.

Many times snoring is caused by your airways drying out. Although this treatment moves into the area of spending money, for many people who’ve tried other things it often turns out to be the trick. Invest in a humidifier to keep the air inside your bedroom from getting too dry and to keep your airway passages moist.

Another helpful tip is to stay away from alcohol before bedtime as well as any medications that dry up your air passages. And unless all of these natural snoring treatments fail, you’ll probably want to say away from most of the anti-snoring devices to found on the internet. While some people may benefit from them, most people benefit from simply exercising and sleeping on their sides.

Fever is a natural response of the body that helps in fighting off foreign substances, such as microorganisms, toxins, etc. Body temperature is set by the thermoregulatory center, located in an area in the brain called hypothalamus. Body temperature is not constant all day, but actually is lowest at 6 A.M. and highest around 4-6 P.M. In addition, temperature varies in different regions of the body; for example, rectal and urine temperatures are about one degree Fahrenheit higher than oral temperature and rectal temperature is higher than urine. It is also important to realize that certain normal conditions can effect body temperature, such as pregnancy, food ingestion, age, and certain hormonal changes.

Every parent has probably experienced this scenario: You wake up in the middle of the night to find your child standing by your bed, flushed, hot, and sweaty. Your little one’s forehead feels warm. You immediately suspect that your child has a fever, but you’re unsure of what to do next. Should you get out the thermometer? Should you call the doctor?

Fever occurs when the body’s internal thermostat raises the body temperature above its normal level. This thermostat is found in the part of the brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus knows what temperature your body should be (usually around 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 37 degrees Celsius) and will send messages to your body to keep it that way.

What Causes Fever?

It’s important to remember that by itself fever is not an illness – it’s usually a symptom of an underlying problem. Fever has several potential causes:

Infection: Most fevers are caused by infection or other illness. Fever helps the body fight infections by stimulating natural defense mechanisms.

Overdressing: Infants, especially newborns, may get fevers if they’re overbundled or in a hot environment because they can’t regulate their body temperature.

Immunizations: Babies and children sometimes get a low-grade fever after getting vaccinated.

Although teething may cause a slight rise in body temperature, it’s probably not the cause if your baby’s or toddler’s temperature is higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius).

The most effective initial treatment for fever is to sponge the person who is having a fever. Sponging can effectively relieve the person by bringing down the temperature slightly.

It is important to understand the symptoms associated with a fever. Learn to recognize it so that you know exactly what you are dealing with when a fever occurs!

Plantar Fascia is the tight band of muscle placed beneath the arch of the foot. It is the connecting tissue which holds the arch foot and extends to the forefoot. This inflammation of plantar fascia is the main cause of pain for plantar fasciitis. It is known as one of the most common reasons for heel pain and very commonly known as heel spur. Excessive stretching of plantar fascia causes the heel pain, arch pain and heel spurs.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

-The increasing age makes plantar fasciia it less flexible and is devoid of stretching causing the pain

-Being overweight adds extra pressure on the foot

-Wearing the wrong footwear

-Exerting your feet through sudden inclusion of exercises in your daily routine

-Being flat-feet

-The foot with a high arch

-If you are suffering from diabetes

-Passing most part of the day standing

Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis

-Pain in the heel while taking first few steps in the morning

-Increasing physical activity leads to further pain

There are no Home Remedies on Planatar Fasciitis but you can use basic home care measures to prevent it and cure it.

Self-Care Measures

-Having an ice massage to the bottom of the foot once you start feeling the pain

-Taking up new sporting activities like swimming or bicycling other than running or jumping

-Avoid wearing shoes which look good but are not comfortable

-Wear Shoes with soft insoles which would keep your feet from overexertion

-You can also tape the area for soothing the tense areas

-Ample amount of rest

-Try losing weight so your feet bares less pressure

Stretching Exercises

Stretching is the best way to deal with this problem and here are some of the most common stretches to prevent plantar fasciitis -

First step for this exercise is to lean forward against a wall by keeping on knee straight and the heel on the ground. The other knee is bent and your face is trying to touch the wall. This stretches the heel cord and the foot arch. Remain in this position for 10 seconds, relax and come back to your position. You can repeat this 20 times for each foot.

Use cold-juice-can to roll your arch over it, the cold minimizes the inflammation and the massaging loosens the tense tissues

Warning: The reader of this article should exercise all precautionary measures while following instructions on the home remedies from this article. Avoid using any of these products if you are allergic to it. The responsibility lies with the reader and not with the site or the writer.

Home Remedies – Facts or Quacks?

That’s what I recently asked myself. Myths and legends often have their basis in a grain of truth. Are home remedies based on truth too? A little research provided this unusual perspective on one of our most frequently-used medicines.

Are We Barking Up The Wrong Tree?

Not if it’s a willow tree! Chewing on willow bark to reduce fever and inflammation dates back to the time of Hippocrates (400 BC). Willow bark was used as a medicine in China and Europe for centuries because of its ability to relieve pain and lower fever. Early American settlers even found Native Americans gathering bark from willow trees to treat the same conditions.

What’s So Special About Willow Bark?

Willow trees, including the white, black, purple and violet species, contain a chemical called salicin. Chewing or pulping this bark releases the salicin. Once the bark is ingested, the body converts the salicin from the willow bark into salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is still used today to treat fevers, decrease inflammation, and even help heart disease.

There’s no need to gnaw on a tree like a beaver every time you have a headache. Nor is it necessary for drug companies to plant, grow, and harvest groves of willow trees and remove the bark. Today salicylic acid is produced synthetically in chemical factories as little white pills of acetylsalicylic acid. Perhaps you know it by its more common name…

Introducing The Miracle Drug – Aspirin!

That’s right – centuries of chewing on willow bark led to the creation of one of our most widely-used medicines: aspirin. Once the amazing curative abilities of the active ingredient in willow bark were recognized, ways were found to mass-produce it as a cheap yet effective product.

Originally hailed as a wonder drug, aspirin was found to have multiple medical uses. It serves as a pain reliever, fever reducer, reduces inflammation, and even acts to thin the blood to help prevent heart attacks. That’s a lot of power in seemingly ordinary willow tree bark.

Amazingly, this was not a discovery by a single person. As we had discussed above, many groups of people around the world were using this home remedy (or even cave remedy!) for thousands of years. This is definitely one home remedy I would classify as a fact, not a quack.

It makes me wonder though: how many trees did they have to chew on before they found the right one?

You can find free home remedies using the resources below. They might not be miracle drugs, but they can help you avoid the cost and embarrassment of common illnesses.

• Before you attempt any home remedies for the nose bleed, try to blow some air from your nose, this helps in removing any clots that keeps the blood vessel open. Sometimes, blowing or applying little pressure is enough to clear the bleeding nose.

• If you are suffering from bleeding nose sit in an upright position. Tilting your head backwards would lead to swallowing your own blood.

• To stop the bleeding, make the person smell the fumes of freshly cut onion. The fumes act as a natural thickening agent which stops the bleeding within few seconds.

• Keep the air clean by using distilled water in the humidifier.

• Increase your vitamin C intake as it is useful in formation of collagen an integralpart of body tissue.

• A dry nose is another reason for nose bleed and smoking contributes to it. Keep the nasal passage moist, avoid smoking.

• When suffering from nose bleed, consume one teaspoon cayenne pepper or red pepper or chili pepper or Tabasco sauce mixed with water that very instant.

• Sniff Witch Hazel tea when suffering from nose bleed.

• Sniffing Cranesbill’s powder curbs nose bleed

• During a nose bleed you can inhale small amount of Bayberry Bar or Oak Bark tea.
